L-tyrosine is considered a non-essential amino acid, meaning that the body can produce it from another amino acid called phenylalanine.

What are the benefits?

L-tyrosine has many benefits such as improved cognitive function and mental stimulation and alertness, especially in situations of stress or fatigue. It also helps to support the production of stress hormones like norepinephrine which helps individuals cope with stress. It is also very beneficial for exercise performance as athletes and bodybuilders use L-tyrosine supplements to potentially improve exercise endurance, strength and focus. Lastly L-tyrosine also is involved in the synthesis of dopamine, which plays a key role in managing mood and depression.

How much do I take?

Tyrosine is commonly taken in doses of 500–2,000 mg 30–60 minutes before exercise and for mental stimulation take 30 minutes before intended activity.

Are there any side effects?

Some people experience side effects such as nausea and headache if you take more than required. If you also take 4-5 hours before bedtime some users can have difficulty sleeping but not all.
